World Hour Tandem Record Milan 1937
Congratulations to Simon Keeton and Jon Rickards from the Rutland Cycling Club who broke the 63 year old record with an astounding 50.068 km at Manchester Velodrome on 23rd September 2000. What a fantastic achievement for another British pair to carry this blue riband record.
Still, our boys held it for 63 years so on with the trumpet blowing!

TRACK TANDEM POSITION. The riders' positions on a racing tandem are concerned almost exclusively with achieving simultaneous pedaling action. This is known as ''nicking.'' Unless two riders ''nick'' well together, they will never make a fast tandem pair. The riders illustrated, E.V. Mills and W.G. Paul, who hold most of the British and world's records, are a poem of motion. Experiments have been tried of setting one pair of cranks a little in advance of the other pair so that one or other of the riders is always pushing, but the loss of rhythm in the pedaling rules out any advantage there may be in the staggered crank idea.
